cresc… Biennale für aktuelle Musik Frankfurt Rhein Main MeWe 17. bis 25. Februar 2023 »Give us a poem!« riefen 1975 Studierende dem berühmten Boxer und Menschenrechtsaktivisten Muhammad Ali zu. »Me We« war seine prompte Antwort. Dieses spontan entstandene Kurz-Gedicht wurde weltberühmt und seine vier Buchstaben besitzen eine tiefe gesellschaftspolitische und humanistische Botschaft. Unter dem Titel ›MeWe‹ erforscht cresc... 2023 an zwei Wochenenden das Verhältnis von Individuum und Gemeinschaft in einer Vielfalt von Spielarten aktueller Musik. Zeitgenössische Musik trifft auf Sci-Fi Funk und Afro-Beat, die isländische Musikszene auf eine westafrikanisch-deutsche Band. Das Publikum ist eingeladen, die klanggewaltigen ›Earth Dances‹ von Sir Harrison Birtwistle sowohl im Konzert als auch als begehbare Klangskulptur zu erleben und sich auf einem ungewöhnlichen Parcours eine essbare Komposition zusammenzustellen. Die Zuschauer*innen agieren zudem aktiv als Interpret*innen, bevor sie gemeinsam ein ›Do-it-Yourself-AgitPop-up-Restaurant‹ erstellen. Auch die Uraufführungen ausgewählter Komponist*innen befassen sich mit der Forderung »Give us a poem!« Mit dabei sind neben den Festivalausrichtenden Ensemble Modern und hr-Sinfonieorchester sowie der hr-Bigband u.a. die schwedisch-äthiopische Experimental-Vokalistin Sofi a Jernberg, der isländische Posaunist, Arrangeur und Afro-Funk Spezialist Samúel Jón Samúelsson, das westafrikanisch-deutsche Liberation Orchestra of Inverted Traditions, die australische Komponistin Cathy Milliken, die Frankfurter freitagsküche, der englische Dirigent Stefan Asbury und die italienische Komponistin Lucia Ronchetti sowie junge internationale Musiker*innen, Dirigent*innen und Komponist*innen des IEMA-Ensemble, des Schallfeld Ensemble und der International Composer & Conductor Seminars (ICCS). Veranstaltungsorte der cresc... Biennale für aktuelle Musik Frankfurt Rhein Main sind das Capitol in Offenbach, die Centralstation Darmstadt, sowie in Frankfurt das Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, der Hessische Rundfunk und das Frankfurt LAB. _________________________ »Give us a poem!« In 1975 students called out to the famous boxer and human rights activist Muhammad Ali. »Me We« was his prompt answer. This spontaneous short poem became world-famous, its four letters conveying a profound sociopolitical and humanistic message. Under the title ›MeWe‹, the festival cresc… 2023 explores the relationship between the individual and the collective over the course of two weekends, exploring a multitude of varieties of current music. Contemporary music meets Sci-Fi Funk and Afro-Beat; Iceland’s music scene meets a West African-German band. The audience is invited to experience the monumental ›Earth Dances‹ by Sir Harrison Birtwistle both in concert and as a walk-in sound sculpture, and assemble an edible composition via an unusual parcours. Concertgoers will be active performers before they get to open a ›Do it-Yourself-Agit-Pop-up-Restaurant‹ together. The world premieres by selected composers also offer their own take on the appeal to »Give us a poem!« . In addition to the festival presenters Ensemble Modern and Frankfurt Radio Symphony, as well as Frankfurt Radio Big Band, the line-up includes the Swedish-Ethiopian experimental vocalist Sofi a Jernberg, the Icelandic trombonist, arranger and Afro-Funk specialist Samúel Jón Samúelsson, the West AfricanGerman Liberation Orchestra of Inverted Traditions, the Australian composer Cathy Milliken, Frankfurt’s freitagsküche, the English conductor Stefan Asbury and the Italian composer Lucia Ronchetti as well as the young international musicians, conductors and composers of the IEMA-Ensemble, the Schallfeld Ensemble and the International Composer & Conductor Seminars (ICCS).
